If what I feel for you could light a fire, it could be a mega bonfire
One that we could warm ourselves in the wintry of life
Because it burns like a million match sticks
And it only requires a single strike to light up
Mapenzi moto !!
And if it were a flame
I would cover it with my hands and jacket
So that even the wind sent from the east would pass by unaware
I would make all the effort to put a glass jar so that it flames up without the struggles of the make-shift “koroboi”
As you read this, I’m stalking enough fuel to last a lifetime
Just like how the Americans exploit-not their oil field reserves
Because when the fuel will be about to run out, I’ll be ready and watching
Watching with a full cup, prepared to put in some more
Because I can’t afford to let this flame go out.
Because it is what makes me contained in my circle
It is what makes sense in the dreams that I string out
And it is what makes the seasons of life lighted
And my happiness is chained to its perpetual flaming
Just like the twigs are connected to the branches.
And so I’ll continue in this business
So that I press on to flame this young love
That it may age to a mega fire that the fire fighters only look at with their mouths wide open & they arms immobile
Thinking of how they have never seen anything like this
Because what I feel is the love that is the real fire (“faiya”).
